Preparation & Cooking

  • Preheat the skillet over medium heat and add olive oil, letting it warm until it shimmers.
  • Add ground chicken to the skillet. Break it apart with a wooden spoon and cook for 5-7 minutes until no longer pink.
  • Add diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic. Stir and cook for 3-5 minutes until vegetables soften.
  • Stir in Cajun seasoning, paprika, oregano, thyme, and cayenne pepper. Cook for another minute until the spices release their aromas.
  • Mix in ketchup and water until combined to create a luscious sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Allow the mixture to simmer for 10-15 minutes, thickening and melding the flavors.
  • Toast the hamburger buns until golden brown while the filling simmers.
  • Assemble by spooning the Cajun chicken mixture onto the bottom halves of the buns, placing the tops on, and serve hot.

Notes

Consider adding fresh herbs or cheese for extra flavor. Adjust heat level by modifying cayenne pepper. Leftovers can be refrigerated for 3 days or frozen for 1 month.
