Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, mix the flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, and yeast until evenly distributed.
  • Add the warm water, Greek yogurt, and olive oil to the dry mixture. Stir until the dough comes together into a shaggy mass.
  • Dust your work surface with flour, then turn the dough out and knead for 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 30-45 minutes.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air. Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces and shape each into a bagel by forming a ring.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bring a large pot of water to a boil and gently lower the bagels into the water, boiling each side for 1-2 minutes.
  • Place the boiled bagels on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
  • Bake the bagels in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

For an extra flavor boost, consider adding herbs or spices to the dough, such as garlic powder or onion flakes. If you like a crunchier bagel, increase the boiling time slightly for each side. Experiment with different toppings like poppy seeds or cheese.
