Preparation

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and Italian sausage. Brown the meat until fully cooked and no longer pink.
  • Add the diced onions and minced garlic, sauté for about 2 minutes until translucent.
  • Transfer the meat mixture to a crockpot. Combine cream of chicken soup, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes, mixing thoroughly.
  • Add the sliced russet potatoes to the mixture and toss gently to coat each slice.
  • Cover the crockpot and choose your cooking method: select high for 2 hours or low for 4 hours. Stir gently after the initial cooking period.
  • After the cooking time, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top and cover again. Cook for an additional 1 to 2 hours until the cheese is melted.
  • Serve warm and enjoy your hearty casserole.

Notes

Slice potatoes uniformly for even cooking. Brown the meat well for maximum flavor. Add cheese towards the end of cooking for best results.
