Ingredients

Basic Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour acts as the foundation
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (about 2 ¼ teaspoons) helps the dough rise
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt enhances flavors
  • 1 tablespoon sugar provides a hint of sweetness
  • 1 cup warm water ideally around 110°F to 115°F to activate yeast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil adds moisture and richness

Herbs and Spices

  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary for aromatic quality
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme for aromatic quality
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh oregano for aromatic quality
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder adds depth
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder adds depth

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and sugar, creating a sweet base for your yeast.
  • Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes until frothy.
  • Once bubbly, add the olive oil, salt, and flour. Stir until a slightly sticky dough forms.
  • Incorporate the chopped herbs and garlic and onion powder until mixed.
  • Gently knead the dough for a few moments to combine flavors.

Rising

  • Grease your crockpot thoroughly and place the dough inside.
  • Cover the crockpot with a towel and let it rise for about 2 hours until doubled in size.
  • Punch the dough down gently and shape it into a round loaf.
  • Let it rise again for about another hour.

Cooking

  • Set your crockpot to low and cook the bread for approximately 4 hours.
  • The bread should turn golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Cooling

  • Cool the bread on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Use fresh herbs for better flavor. You can prepare the dough the evening before and refrigerate to rise overnight.
