Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup sour cream for creamy richness
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil to provide moisture
  • 1 tablespoon Steen's cane syrup or light molasses for sweetness and depth
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for aromatic notes

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup self-rising flour for bread rise
  • 1 1/2 cups finely chopped pecans divided for crunch and flavor
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar for sweet balance
  • 2/3 cup light brown sugar packed for caramel essence
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt to enhance flavors

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8-inch glass baking pan.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, sour cream, vegetable oil, cane syrup, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • In a separate large bowl, mix the self-rising flour, 1 cup of chopped pecans, both sugars, and salt.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle the remaining pecans on top.
  • Bake for about 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

For an extra flavor layer, toast the pecans before adding them. You can substitute half the granulated sugar with honey or maple syrup, or add items like chocolate chips or dried cranberries for variety.
